It’s too Simple…

Today, after “church” was over, my husband and I and a close friend were given an opportunity to minister to a young mother.  She showed up after everyone had left and was looking for someone that would pray with her.  She had given her life to Christ a few months ago and more than anything she needed peace.  As we prayed with her you could tell she still had no peace… she was still in need.   So I felt led to ask her :

Are you able to enjoy the presents under the Christmas tree before you unwrap them?

And of course she said no.  We went on to explain that God gave her so many gifts thru the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ but that she needs to take possession of them.  I placed my open palm out in front of her and told her that her peace was sitting in my hand and she could take it… but she didn’t.  So then I told her that all she had to do was reach out and take it out of my hand and it was hers.  She then reached out and took it and a smile just began to dance across her face.  We then instructed her to unwrap it and make it hers…. and she did.  Her smile was amazing as she said “You make it sound so simple.”  The truth is, it really is that simple.  This is something that each of us need to realize.  We can’t take possession of the gifts God gave us until we
with childlike faith reach out to him and accept them.  And we’ll never really enjoy them until we unwrap them and make them ours.  It’s time we reach out and take ownership of what God has given us.  I would go so far as to tell each and everyone of you to engrave your name on the gifts God has given you.  The peace that God has given you is yours and no one has the right to take it away.  You don’t have to do anything for it.  It’s not a payment for work you’ve done… it’s his free gift.  Take ownership of the peace God has given you and no matter the situation, the environment, the things that are happening around and to you… don’t let go of it.

Holding on to God’s peace is like taking hold of his hand…

…there is comfort in it, there is safety and security there.  Having God’s peace doesn’t mean that you’re not going to go thru “stuff,” it doesn’t mean that everything is going to change to “peaches and cream”…. what it does mean is that in spite of all that I’m going thru I know God is with me… he is right beside me…. he has never left me… I am not alone… I will make it thru… I may get beat down but I will get back up… I may be broken but I will not be destroyed… he will always be there, my hand in His… walking me thru.  With Him at my side…. I WILL make it

We can walk thru anything
if we REALLY know that he is with us.
